Aston Villa have completed the signing of Genk striker and Tanzania international Mbwana Samatta
Mbwana Ally Samatta – now of Aston Villa – will be the first Tanzanian player to play in the Premier League. Samatta completed an £8.5 million move to Aston Villa from Genk – a move that is not only a big deal for Villa – a team without a striker – but a massive one for the people of Tanzania.
The Premier League strugglers confirmed that the 27-year-old has moved to Villa Park on a four-and-a-half-year deal. Samatta, who moved to Belgium from Congolese giants Tout Puissant Mazembe in 2016, has seven goals in 20 Jupiler League outings so far this term.
Samatta has 51 caps with 18 goals for Tanzania and 76 goals in 191 matches for Genk since joining four years ago.
His 23 goals last season helped Genk claim the Belgian league title. He has struck three times in the UEFA Champions League this season, including at Liverpool.
